my hair curls around my face
i look back, far back 
the place where i was 
glistens, beckons

who do i see in the shadows
the ghost of my former self
calling, crying, save me

the shadows snatch her up.

i look forward, so faded 
a glimmer of hope and love 
a hand held out, suspended
come with me, love me
don't ever look away.

i stand in-between
half light, half dark 
i chew my lips, my eyes shed 
i can feel my heart expanding
the light grows brighter

i take a step, hesitant
the brightness of hope
the hand, rough, calloused
the darkness falls away
i grasp the hand

my savior, my love
he smiles down on me
i will never be alone 
i walk with him, safe and free
i soon realize he is carrying me.
